  • 12 — Accountability and the Port of Seattle: What are the next steps? - A recent Washington State Auditor’s Office report raised serious concerns about the Port of Seattle’s procurement and contracting policies and has prompted an investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.  This report and the on-going Federal investigation raised important questions:

    • How has the Port of Seattle responded to these findings?
    • What role has the media played in exposing the Port's actions?
    • What changes are needed in governance, contracting, or other areas? (Seattle, WA)
  • 14 — The Anatomy of Ethical Slips in Government (audio conference) - AGA, in conjunction with the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT) and the Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA), is pleased to announce a new and increasingly important topic to our audio conference schedule – cases of ethical lapses.

    —  Purchasing, Bidding, and Contracts Mini-workshop - Do you know your bid limits?  Do you know what public works projects are?  Can you legally use another entities bid document? Do you know when you can avoid the bidding process?  what is a sole-source contract?  What is a small works roster?  Do you have a small works roster in place?  Do you have an adopted purchase policy in place?  This mini-workshop will assist you in answering all of above questions.   • 16-17 — Sectional Leadership Meeting (SLM) - It is never too early to start mapping out your plans for the Spring 2008 SLM event.   As many of you know, the 2007 SLM was a great success and the positive comments by attendees certainly make this a worthwhile event.  Please plan to attend; this event is by invitation only.   • 5 — Public Disclosure & Public Records - Jerry Handfield, Washington State Archivist, Office of the Secretary of State will make a presentation on: "Document Retention 101 and Why It's Important to You."  It will cover the basic fundamentals of document retention and record keeping, covering the Past, Present, and Future of public access to public records; the law; and "The System", including the State and Local Records Committees and the role of the State Archivist.

    Tim Ford, who serves as Rob McKenna's Assistant Attorney General for Government Accountability, will discuss in general Washington State's Public Records Act (RCW 42.56) (Tumwater, WA)

  • 18 Integrating Cost and Performance in Financial Reporting (audio conference) - AGA, in conjunction with the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT) and the Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA), is pleased to announce an increasingly important topic to our audio conference schedule – using process based reports to improve managerial decision making.
