Accountability and the Port of Seattle:
What are the next steps?

Date:  May 12, 2008

Joint Meeting with the AGA, Washington State Local Government Auditors Association, and the Evergreen Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration

Panelists:

  • Lloyd Hara, Commissioner, Port of Seattle

Summary: A recent Washington State Auditor’s Office report raised serious concerns about the Port of Seattle’s procurement and contracting policies and has prompted an investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.  This report and the on-going Federal investigation raise important questions:
  • How has the Port of Seattle responded to these findings?
  • What role has the media played in exposing the Port's actions?
  • What changes are needed in governance, contracting, or other areas?
