Auditing Update This key session offers a comprehensive update on audit standards issued by the AICPA, GAO and OMB. Learn about timelines for implementing audit risk assessment standards (effective 2008), and analyze the affect of SAS 112 and updated government audit standards (Yellow Book).
State Auditor's Office New
Hotline Program Last year the Washington State Auditor's Office
launched a new, toll-free hotline to improve government efficiency and
accountability. Jim Brittain will explain the reason for this hotline, as
well as SAP implementation of the program and results. Performance Auditing — What's all the Buzz? (Linda Long, CPA, CGFM, Director of Performance Audits, Washington State Auditor's Office, Olympia, WA) In 2005, Washington voters approved Initiative 900. The measure authorizes comprehensive performance audits of Washington's state and local governments, complementing financial and accountability work historically performed by the State Auditor's Office. Find out how the State Auditor's Office launched this program, including how public outreach is driving the process. Linda Long will introduce attendees to two performance audit case studies: the audit of the Department of Health's health professions licensing operation and the Port of Seattle.
Forensic Auditing At some time during your career, you may need to conduct a financial investigation. Now is a great time to learn about forensic auditing/accounting, one of the fastest growing fields in accounting. Eric Younger will explain the difference between auditing and forensic auditing. He will introduce essential forensic tools and techniques, effective report writing, and tips for testifying as an expert witness.
Tuesday, April 22nd (David Bean, Director of Research and Technical Activities, Governmental Accounting Standards Board, Norwalk, CT) GASB standards on retiree healthcare benefits and pollution remediation obligations are now in effect for many Washington governments, including business-type activities. Other standards, such as intangible assets, also will soon be in effect. David Bean will explain how this guidance and other projects on the GASB's agenda may impact you and share valuable implementation tips. A-2 and B-2 — Washington State Ethics: Rules, Regulations, and Ethics for CPAs in Washington (Thomas Neill, CPA, Finney Neill & Co., Seattle, WA) Tom Neill will discuss real life stories of CPA's and the issues they face today. This track (sessions A-2 and B-2) meets the Washington State Board of Accountancy's four-hour ethics CPE requirement. Topics include: review of Board of Accountancy Rules and the latest AICPA code of conduct issues.
